Hello lonely people.

Welcome to Bawker (like Gawker, but a chicken) by me, Rebecca Slaman, theatre & pop culture writer and enthusiast!

I’ve spent a lot of pandemic time flopping around in a cloud of depression and lack of ambition. Everything seemed kinda pointless for a while, given the job market and my lack of ~specialness~. I’m a young queer white girl who can explain Bo Burnham to people, big whoop. And that’s the thing, I haven’t stopped analyzing pop culture, human culture, and people. I might even call it building my philosophy. After a few false starts and rejected submissions, it is time to begin my writing empire from the ground up on the topic of something I really care about: whatever everyone on Twitter is talking about today.

I’m gonna try to commit to writing every other week, but of course if something happens that makes my brain light up, you’ll be hearing from me.
